Privacy issues enter the custody battle between Pitt and Jolie

Filing for divorce is an emotional and often life-changing event. For most divorcing couples in New Mexico, only family members, close friends and members of the community will become aware of the details of a divorce settlement. However, for those involved in a high asset or celebrity divorce, it is likely that residents across the nation will know the intimate details of the divorcing spouse’s lives. Even more so, when children are involved, the media will often detail the sensitive aspects of child custody.

Most Americans are aware of the shocking split of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. And while the movie star couple has built a relationship that has been showcased by the media since it initiated, the media’s access to the details of the child custody decisions has generated some legal actions from Pitt.

Recent reports claim that Pitt filed a motion asking for the records regarding the couples’ six minor children, as they relate to the ongoing divorce case and child custody dispute, to be sealed. It was alleged by Pitt’s lawyers that Jolie and her attorneys have compromised the privacy of the children by attempting to undercut Pitt through a court filing regarding the couple’s custody battle.

Pitt argues that this filing by Jolie violates a pervious agreement made to protect the children’s privacy. His lawyers cited the publication of the names of therapists and other mental health professionals used by the children to support these privacy issue claims. Representatives of Jolie have not made any comments on this issue at this time.

Whether you are part of a celebrity couple or not, going through a divorce with children can be complex and lengthy. It is also important to note that divorcing parents have the right to take steps to fulfill the best interests of their children. The assistance of an attorney could help a spouse better navigate the matter while also protecting their rights as well.
